Golden temple built in 1604 by Guru Arjan Dev, the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib) in Amritsar symbolizes Sikhism's values of equality and spiritual freedom. Its foundation was laid by Muslim Sufi saint Hazrat Mian Mir, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh added gold foil to its dome in 1830.
