Interesting debate starting about the Ballon d'Or (player of the season). Should Messi get it for the World Cup, or Mbappe for his WC efforts + a stronger Ligue Un showing, or Haaland for his superhuman PL + UCL showing? Personally I think I prefer Mbappe, but interested to hear people's thoughts (Counts last season)

@cyrus and @chukwukaosakwe i take your points, but Mbappe had a nearly-as-good club season as Haaland, plus an incredible World Cup, which imo shouldn’t count for everything (which it kinda would for Messi) but should count for something significant

Feels like this is Messi’s season narrative-wise, and it’s his last chance since he’s out of Europe now But I’d probably go Haaland with City winning the treble + him scoring >1 goal/gm in both PL and UCL

Leo, usually wc is the weighest thing League is not important if you win the WC. Leo always got critics on missing it.. Even if Haaland an Mbappe deserve it, I think the winner will be Leo.

Messi hands down. The Balloon D’Or isn’t about individual talent, it’s about the most compelling story over the last year. It just so happens to correlate with talent.

Messi will get the most votes. He was still phenomenal at the WC. Plus the story is compelling. Mbappé was also phenomenal. Not playing at the WC in a WC year is almost a disqualifier. If the WC is seen as being of the current season, Haaland might have a chance. He will get one in the future for sure.
