Degrowth is a bad word for a very sound idea: growth management. This paragraph from Gorrell is completely bad faith (give me one country in Europe that has an actual degrowth strategy?) and makes me question his reading of the reviews results.

Also, is there anything the author has about the 56+ papers that did offer scientific analysis? That's where the meat is, this "hot take" really just throws the baby out with the bath water rather than engaging with the meat of the perspective offered.

It is a bit of a pickle. Expanding markets = expanding energy use =acceleration of 6th Great Extinction, declining markets = societal collapse = no ability to work together to figure out how to turn ecological collapse around. At least the ideas behind both are outdated and unsustainable and so go away one way or another. Here's to having enough time to create new paradigms to find a good way forward!
