It's very unlikely that enough folks know what it is or even care to download it if they already have ChatGPT

@venturetwins This is almost certainly Chinese bots or paid acquisition—subsidized by the government. Not a single person I know outside of Twitter has ever heard of DeepSeek.

I don't know, hype/virality feels real. It's above ChatGPT in our app store (South African)

I am starting to think that the same way that physical goods from China end up being the default for consumers (because of price), it may happen for LLMs, too. Then the obvious "solution" (quotes because it's not a real problem IMO) is to only have open source models.
