people really believe in the government and dollar so much that they think religions are dying out religion fundamentally is the human attempt at understanding our connection with the universe so why would someone feel threatened by religion? I don't practice, but it certainly gets my respect more than worshipping man made idols

This quote comes to mind: “If you need fear of hell to be a good person, you are not a good person.”

good point I like this saying because ppl that try to use fear of "something else" to bend others to their will are no beuno but i don't think that accurately depicts religion, it just sounds good and like humans aren't affected by forces we don't understand

I'd say it’s fair to point out that fear can be a tool some people wield, consciously or not, to influence others religious or otherwise. But you’re right that pinning it all on religion might be too narrow. Humans are messy, always grappling with things beyond our understanding, whether you call it mystery, the unknown, or just life’s chaos. Ultimately, it comes down to how people interpret and use it. Does it boil down to human nature more than the systems we build?

that's what I find so fascinating about the subject. imo it is human nature to see our own image in the divine. the issue i see is most ppl (westerners) literally worship celebrities but will scoff at the idea of religion. completely ignoring the fact it's a fundamental building block to everything we see society today, for better or worse but with worshipping the dollar, humans are at the behest of those that control the dollar I don't think either way is bad on its own and there's a natural harmony for these is society. plenty of successful ppl are religious and plenty of ppl are happy working a 9-5 for minimum wage and watching Netflix when they get home
