Thanks to the Blobs (EIP4844) it is now very cheap to do transactions on L2, and will remain very cheap for a long time. The problem, in my opinion, will soon shift to the L2 chains themselves, whose DBs will grow very quickly. I wonder if any of them are working on some form of state rent/expiry.
