Don't know where you normally live, but Japan is pretty affordable rn fwiw. 

If you live in NA and can work remote, you'll almost certainly save money moving there (even after moving costs 😅)

If you working remotely but live in Japan, what the average living cost?

There's a huge range, so average doesn't make much sense imo.

But if you want to live frugally in central Tokyo, it's very possible (rent from ~500 USD for a small place, $5 meals very possible).
