We couldn't put on an event without inviting some friends from IFT! 🫂 The next speaker we'd like to announce for Decentralised Data Summit is Franck Royer (@fryorcraken.eth), the Program Lead at @waku. Waku enables censorship-resistant and private off-chain communications, using novel zero-knowledge technology to prevent spamming. Franck joined the blockchain ecosystem for the Cypherpunk and privacy values, previously working on multi-chain private swap protocols. 🔁 Sign up now! https://lu.ma/ysjjjaxa

Time and effort have been invested in RLNv2 and req-res protocols to enable browser and mobile clients to be part of the p2p network, using decentralized peer discovery and messaging routing protocols, to ensure users can remain sovereign. We're not there yet, ongoing work focuses on ensuring Waku applications are reliable in a decentralized topology. Further work is needed to increase anonymity and resilience. "Instead of imposing costs and rules and validations at a few centralized gatekeeper points to stop spam. Instead, you push it out to the edges. You impose costs on everyone who is actually using the protocol to spend their CPU. And you know, the world of email would probably look very different today if the protocol had adopted Hashcash back in the 90s." says @lopp in https://press.logos.co/podcasts/logos-state/jameson-lopp-technology-to-empower-individuals This approach resonates with what @waku aims to achieve. A simpler design could be a p2p network of cloud nodes, with browser and mobile clients accessing the network via REST APIs. However, this wouldn't work for a private, censorship-resistant system, as seen in the past [1][2].

Definitely ingenious way to produce a workable app without bothering with UX. They implemented the IRC API on the node, so you start it and then use any IRC client. Not much activity in there. I was hoping the team would be more active. Looking forward to their implementation of RLN. I like the vibe, just sometimes a bit too spiritual

Milestone: Railgun has now done over $1 billion in privatized volume in 2024 alone ✨ There are so many common, everyday events that we don’t want made public. For example: payroll. It’s not at all shady to want your salary hidden from the public eye. On the contrary — it’s expected, reasonable, and normal.

Slowly going through Hayao Miyazaki's PG movies with my kiddos. They enjoyed Spirited away and Howl's Moving Castle but My Neighbor Totoro is the favorite hands down.

Zero Knowledge Proofs - want to learn how to program them but not sure where to start? https://zkintro.com/articles/programming-zkps-from-zero-to-hero Any new and innovative technology is hard to learn. This tutorial makes it easy for you, the working programmer, to learn how to write ZKPs from scratch. You'll build a digital signature scheme, deepen your mental model, get the hang of the edit-debug-run cycle, and gain the ability to develop things like group signatures. Includes plenty of exercises and graphics to deepen your grok. For anyone who write code for a living and wants to program the future with ZKPs.

OpenSea has received a Wells notice from the SEC threatening to sue us because they believe NFTs on our platform are securities. We're shocked the SEC would make such a sweeping move against creators and artists. But we're ready to stand up and fight. This is a move into uncharted territory. By targeting NFTs, the SEC would stifle innovation on an even broader scale: hundreds of thousands of online artists and creatives are at risk, and many do not have the resources to defend themselves. In addition to standing our own ground, we're pledging $5M to help cover legal fees for NFT creators and devs that receive a Wells notice. Every creator, big or small, should be able to innovate without fear. I hope the SEC will come to its senses sooner rather than later, and that they'll listen with an open mind. Until then, we'll stand up and fight for our industry. Onwards 🌊⛵️

While casts are being boosted, might as well use it for a good cause. The US vs Storm trial is critical to onchain privacy in the US. It is still short of funding by $2M USD. If you care about crypto, privacy, or even just about the freedom for developers to code, please donate. https://wewantjusticedao.org/donate

Inspired by @waku's research into Rate-Limiting Nullifiers (RLN) for enforcing rate-limits in a decentralized peer-to-peer network, I suggested applying this to Farcaster messages. Long shot but I'm hoping this makes sense. https://github.com/farcasterxyz/protocol/discussions/193#discussioncomment-10472268
