In Japan, when a dish breaks, they don't throw it away, but based on an ancient belief and art they inherited from their ancestors, they repair the breaks in a special way.  They glue the broken pieces together with gold powder.  This traditional Japanese art is called golden binding or kintsugi.

Kintsugi, also known as kintsukuroi, is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The method is similar to the maki-e technique.
