lots of people seem to think that paying for storage on farcaster means that they won't see ads or be exploited like in web2 1. this money does not fund farcaster apps 2. while there is no serious competition for client diversity there is no inherent reason why this type of exploitation won't happen on warpcast

@ben- and I also discussed something related to that recently. essentially, the only thing that prevents warpcast from web2-like behaviour atm is a 'social contract' between them and the current user-base (as he put it). the same contracts that also existed between facebook and twitter and it's 'early ecosystem' - and we all know how this played out.

🎯 the key difference is that the underlying data is commoditized so that is no longer a moat like twitter and facebook have warpcast needs to decentralize their remaining moats (DCs and sign in with warpcast) to give alt clients a chance to onboard and meaningfully retain users and compete with warpcast otherwise it's kinda moot
