Introducing LINE by @figure31, dropping Feb 21 at 1 PM ET

LINE is a photographic series of 250 dynamic tokens placed within a synthetic landscape—a cartesian plane. Tokens are placed on this plane, each with a unique “field of view.”

Using photographic and post-production techniques similar to Figure’s SALT, the images in LINE are captured using a digital camera combined with vintage ultra-telephoto lenses. 

All photographs are taken in remote, empty landscapes at sundown or night.

The collection is structured as a 25 x 25 grid/cartesian plane. 625 photographs are arranged on it to recreate a synthetic landscape, and tokens are placed at different coordinates. There are fewer tokens than images.

The origin point defines a token’s position on the grid, which defines its unique “field of view.” 


Most tokens have a dynamic 180-degree field of view, but it’s also possible to upgrade a limited number of them to a 360-degree field of view.

After the auction, tokens can be moved to new coordinates and explore the landscape. 

The first 25 tokens to reach the upper or lower borders of the grid will become “star” tokens. They have the ability to move to any coordinate, and will have a 360-degree view.

Tokens act like lenses, where location also influences perception. 

Each token’s position on the place defines what image they perceive in their “field of view.” They cycle and evolve together as a calibrated dynamic system. About a third of the photographs are ever on display simultaneously.

The metadata of a token is dynamic; images and attributes travel back and forth between the different points within the reach of its field of view. Images cycle daily.
