When I was a child my school had PCs with Windows. Shortly after, they opened a room with thin clients from Sun Microsystems that ran Solaris. I remember being fascinated by sitting in front of a computer that seemed completely different to me at the HW and the SW. Short after that I installed Mandrake on my home PC.

Amazing devices! This was the era when everyone was talking about "thin clients", and how they would be the next big thing, esp in businesses and schools. They were more or less an evolution of the VT terminal: Graphic terminals handling screen, keyboard, mouse and everything ran on a central server.
