because of misaligned incentives. the boss pays you for 8 hours per day, not for the outcomes you drive to the company. if the boss starts paying you for 4 hours per day or per week, my guess is society won't magically get more efficient - those companies will just underperform and die. I think this is great advice for the self-employed or entrepreneurs who have inherently aligned incentives. the question to ask is how to make more of society operate this way? I think it can't, as pay-for-time manages downside risk for individuals by providing stable pay. Maybe this is a place where thinking about UBI could lead us in the right direction at least.
