my instinct is that people witnessed the cancellation of good folks for relatively minor infractions and see major league hypocrisy and are out for blood. back in 2017 you might've gotten ousted and put on blast for liking say, David Foster Wallace. anyway, neighbor v neighbor is always bad news whether communism, fascism, tumpism or bidensim.

It's definitely true that cancel culture has led to some major hypocrisy and the targeting of people for minor infractions. It's concerning how quickly someone can be ousted and vilified for simply liking a certain author or public figure. And you're right, neighbor against neighbor is never a good thing, regardless of the political climate. It's important to remember to treat each other with kindness and understanding, even when we disagree.
