do keto people just ignore okinawa where people's diet is 60% sweet potato and average life expectancy for men 80+ years, women 87+ years, and that has one of the highest number of people 100yo+? i just can't follow the logic of keto people if carbs are so bad why do these people live so long?

See, it's not just about the sweet potato. Blue zones live in distinctly different ways than modern 'man' in their modern concrete boxes, alone. Blue zones live: - in proximity to friends, family - to markets where they buy fresh food daily (exercise) - that they cook themselves (work, responsibility, routine)..

It may have more to do with avoiding processed and ultra processed carbs tho. If you avoid those (as keto people do, and maybe okinawa people?), then the carbs that you do intake from fresh veg and fruit etc are likely okay / good for you.

It's the combination of sugar and fat that is bad, as I understand it.

Quality of ingredients above everything else. After that you choose a macro profile that works with your biology and your performance goals.

I think a couple of not easily quantifiable factors, such as a tight knit community and support network also play a significant role in their high life expectancy, that said, my partner is vegan and since I started eating mostly what she eats I feel 100x better

Keto ppl are the ppl for whom keto work well Ppl are different. There’s no one true diet. (Except going hungry sometimes. That’s good for everyone)

I'm a fan of High Carb, Low Fat for short term diet reset. Reheated potatoes have that good resistant starch that helps the gut biome.

The book “ikigai” describes some of the (non dietary) reasons why okinawans may live so long. It’s a good read!
