Kyoto

I went to a Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) at Bishamonten Temple today. It’s only a few minutes outside of Kyoto. I was the only foreigner. 3 people asked me if I was lost. I got invited to sit at the head table for the tea ceremony after chatting up the tea master’s husband who gave me 8 restaurant recommendations. I played the taiko drums with the children and I had a blast. Sometimes you’ve got to go a little off the beaten path, not be afraid to explore, and lean in. Magical things happen.
