It's a good question. I'm optimistic community/user funding rounds will provide an avenue when VC isn't the right tool.

Great software gets built imo no matter what, it just takes longer without capital. A prime example would be neural networks: if there was investment into specialized hardware in the 90s, the deep learning revolution could've probably happened 15 years sooner.

There is competition among VCs. If there was a single cabal of VCs that ran the world, then I’d agree with you that some products weren’t built because of them. Maybe the product isn’t great after all.
