With the current focus on rollups in Ethereum, we will see thousands of them in the future, including both general-purpose and app-specific rollups. These rollups rely on Ethereum for security by settling their blocks on it and in future these rollups would start using Data Availability solutions like Avail DA or a Data Availability Committee on Ethereum. Increasing the number without fundamentally improving how these systems work together will complicate things further.
