Double-posted from Twitter, not sure what the vibe on doing that here these days is. Just link post to the original tweet? Anything goes?

Vitalik talks here about using prediction markets for verifying info in tandem with Community Notes. I had thought about this a few months back (screenshot of what I jotted down 👇) Worth reading the original post from Vitalik

Can you expand on who you mean by “faux-conservative schizo market liberals” and in what way he’ll get steamrolled by them? Not sure if this is counter to, in agreement with, or irrelevant to what you’re saying but Vance is a big fan of his

Deneen is really good, worth reading regardless of where you stand on things. Why Liberalism Failed is his better known book but haven’t done it yet bc my library system doesn’t have the audiobook (Audible does tho if you’re a listener)

My idea in saying it might reveal things we didn't know we were missing out on is that I don't know what they would be because they would be novel, creative features that the platforms would be compelled by competition to mine for. Things like autoplay was for youtube, or like frames here on FC. But simple ideas like more advanced search capabilities, search by transcript, better creator analytics—really any feature that would be desirable to add to youtube, having competition will spur the development thereof Mostly agreed re: downside risk but isn't that a large part of why so many of us are here on FC? It's why I joined in 2022. And more than just censorship resistance, there's a positive vision of owning one's own content that I think would speak to the content creators and create a draw to such a platform. And where the content goes the users will follow

Like it's crazy that Youtube has such unilateral control over our content and its distribution Generally it feels like a pretty great product to me, so the competitive benefits of disrupting the monopoly feel less salient than with something like twitter, but the introduction of real competition might reveal to us things we didn't even know we were missing out on. And the concerns for varying degrees of censorship on Youtube and platforms of its kind are real

Video is such an important vector for free speech in today's media ecosystem and that's not changing any time soon We need protocols. Protocols foster competition by freeing users from platforms. Protocolize everything

Who's building the decentralized video sharing protocol + platform? Twitter is to Farcaster + Warpcast/Supercast/etc as Youtube is to ???
