My grandfather lost his brother in WW2 when he was only 17 years old. My grandmother saw her mother get shot in front of her eyes when she was still a child. It's so easy to forget that my grandparents still witnessed the 2nd war in Germany. It's unimaginable today, but it didn't even happen that long ago.
