Why don’t you import ENS from the connected addresses rather than manual input?

You need to create a proof.

If we auto-import, someone can send an offensive ENS to your address.

Good point - also, @takeshi - for people with multiple ENS names in a wallet, it would be difficult to decern which ENS address to auto-import as the farcaster username / identity.

Yeah, there should be some UI to select preferred one(s)

There is a UI to add which ENS  names you'd like to use as identities in farcaster, and once they are added you can click on and select any of the added names from the list...

It is much less resource intensive to populate the selection of ENS usernames from names that are manually entered by the user, than to auto-populate a list of every name in the wallet.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but why isn't it ideal to manually enter the ENS names you would like to use as a farcaster user name?
