Dr. Mary Guinan has made many contributions to public health. She worked on the campaign to eradicate smallpox in India, was one of the first to sound the alarm about the AIDS epidemic, and was the first woman to serve as chief scientific advisor to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
