oh, you are in for a ride! I was already in tears in ep 1, and ep 6 absolutely broke me.
basically it follows the life of the 2 main protagonists (Ae-sun and Gwan-shik) over the course of 3-4 generations, starting with the island of Jeju in the 50s. it explores the relationships between family members + the local community.
we see the 2 lovebirds as children, then follow them into their teens, later as young adults, and finally as elderly.
the series focuses on their hardships and how they navigate life through poverty and a rapidly evolving Korea.
we also watch their children grow with them, which is very sweet.
by the end of it, I thought to myself I definitely want a significant other as loyal, steadfast, and loving as Gwan-shik.
