When people tell me they don't like Elon Musk (or any other famous person), I usually respond with:

- Oh wow, how did you guys meet?
- Oh no, what did he do to you?
- Is he really that bad as they say in the press?

A bit smirky but open-hearted. After all, what's the point of giving praise or hate to a person you never met behind their back?

People often don't speak the "implied" words and I think your point misses that. 

When someone says "I don't like X famous person" the implied words are "I don't like how X famous person publicly portrays themselves or the decisions X person publicly makes"

Elon is a great example of this. He, more than most, takes explicit action to tell the world his views, on his platform, to shape a narrative about himself. 

The real problem is people aren't specific enough about their point but they are lazy and just assume we all "get it."
