Take the shinkansen south... visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial + Miyajima Island + Okunoshima Island, maybe? A bit further south (near Iwakuni) there is a pretty unique structure - the Kintai Bridge - 5 wooden arches spanning the Nishiki River...
