My father recently showed up, I'm seeing him for the first time in my conscious life. My mom speaks very highly of him now. He pays child support, changed diapers when I was a baby, and is interested in my life. I haven't seen child support, and if there is any, it used to go to renting a room and now it goes to the mortgage. He was not there when we were starving, when I was insulted at school, when we were carrying things to a new apartment on foot. Why do I need him when I'm 17? My mom lets him in on all my secrets, lets him come over anytime he wants. He acts like he's at home! I have a total stranger and a man I don't like hanging out in my apartment every week. And my mom brainwashes me that I should love him, listen to him, respect him.
