“After the suspected killer of UnitedHeathcare CEO Brian Thompson was revealed to be Luigi Mangione, a bright young man from a well-to-do family, thousands of pundits rushed to tell us why he did it. I, however, held back, because unlike them I’d actually met Luigi, and I knew all was not what it seemed.” "If you celebrate someone gunning down a defenceless person in the street, then you advocate for a world in which this is an acceptable thing for anyone to do. You in fact advocate for a world in which a stranger can decide that you’re also a bad person, and gun you down in the street. In such a world, I promise you, your health insurance would cost much more." https://www.gurwinder.blog/p/the-riddle-of-luigi-mangione

The trial will be interesting in the sense that we’ll find out whether he embraces the role of social vigilante, as his manifesto suggests; or if all the bravado vanishes once in a courtroom with the real prospect of the death penalty (in the federal case). So far he’s pled non-guilty, which can mean either that (on likely advice from his counsel) he’s not taking ownership of his actions as a proud vigilante would, or that he wants to go court so he can make a show about it and put healthcare on trial as well
