so i’ve found I like plain text things, generally, like hledger. 

org mode looks interesting, as well as obsidian. do you have a preference? tried either?

obsidian all the way down! I've setup my own cloud to sync my notes with Obsidian with a Synology and its clients for Linux and Android. Love it!
