We're not pricing the value of Farcaster taking off. Farcaster is asking people to do normal stuff (use social media), but provides extra benefits bc it's crypto-native. Powerful onboarding tool. Question: How do you frame the benefits of Farcaster relative to traditional SM apps in normie-friendly language?

Let's do a mental experiment and not say "privacy" or "decentralization". These aren't always immediate concerns for some people. What problem does Farcaster solve that's a massive pain point for SM users *today*? Does it solve the problem because crypto, or a non-crypto app (e.g., Bluesky/Mastodon) can solve it?

One big downside of traditional social media for many people is that they view it as biased. X used to be censoring the right, now its bullying the left. Facebook censors stories. Etc… Farcaster is neutral Social Media that no one owns. This is a message that most people can understand, and if expanded on in another sentence or two, most people will agree that’s a good thing. Another benefit is that you can have many different clients. You could say: You can use Farcaster as a social media network in different ways, through different interfaces. If you like X, there’s a version that emulates it. Same goes for Reddit. Etc. In-app payments to friends. Frames. This one takes a minute to explain; but I think its a feature that once used by people, they universally like it. In-feed apps which allow you to basically interact with other websites without leaving the feed. Tipping - you can get tipped and tip friends for their content. 300 $degen

Channels should be the onboarding tool imo. Say Kate loves cooking. The /cooking community on Farcaster is buzzing with people who are also passionate about cooking. At least one of these 3 things should happen after she joins the channel: - Kate makes new friends - likes her feed everyday - figures out a way to make money Then Kate will tell more people about it.

This is a really hard thing to distill since SM audiences are not a monolith. Networks tend to compete based on first movers and then scale based on that differentiation. Insta - moms, foodies, "influencers", Twit - journos, techies, FB - students, Tik Tok - viral dancing, challenges. They each had their core group, then reached critical mass, sometimes through apps like FB or intuitive recommendation algos like Tik Tok. So, we're still searching for our people, our true believers. Crypto is too small, but that could change in a historic bull market. Maybe. One angle could be "your social should belong to you." On SM, you don't own anything. Those pics of you and your kids aren't yours anymore. They are a product being bought and sold for profit. Farcaster is a social network built with people not advertisers at its the center. You own your identity, your assets, you can play, or even profit on your own terms. If we can make them understand this FC becomes about agency, something we lose more of each day.

I used to tell people it was bot free, now I don’t know how to express the value to a normie, imo there aren’t any they would care about atm. Normies don’t want to be sold on tech, only on value they’re missing out on. What value is anyone missing on twitter or threads at this point? Come to Warpcast where the bots are nice because they’re hoping you will pay them in a token you want nothing to do with 🤷‍♂️

Normie social media is fucked beyond repair. Those who keep participating will continue to be victimized by the various forces Publishing via cryptographically bound identities is the only sensible way forward as impersonation tech continues to accelerate. I have explained to my normie friends that Farcaster is just like when Twitter and Reddit had a baby and then Tumblr is babysitting 🤘 but this is also showing the age of the audience as not a lot of young adults go on Reddit now and Tumblr is very niche these days 😆
