My friend just quit working in crypto today after 7 years.

They said, more or less, this place was full of dreams and hope in 2017, and none of it materialized in the years sense.

Sad day to lose a passionate builder and creative.

I yap about ai and the future of blockchain.

Sometimes resiliency is more necessary than a mission-driven purpose. Things don’t play out in the timeline we want, things play out in the timeline they play out on.

I hate that I actually understand his reasons.

It’s really tough in here ngl. Lots of dreams were sold to us only to get onboarded and discover it takes a lot of consistency, patience and a little bit of luck in here.

I hope he finds his feet in the outer world💕

Trying to get good at this whole crypto thing

Back then we thought blockchain would’ve been mainstream by now and there’d be several killer dApps and use cases. 

Today, arguably, only stablecoins are cryptos killer use case.

2017 was definitely a time full of idealism and optimism.

I wasn't here in 2017, have things changed that much since then?

Just be ready to be here for the long haul, and to best prepare yourself to be resilient during the down times.

💪 I’m not going anywhere, but we are at a crossroads as an industry atm. This trend was pervasive last year as well.

I've been here since 17 and I understand.

But I was also around in 1999-2006 when a lot of startups didn't have things materialize.

Progress has been made though and your friend can be proud of having contributed. New people with new energy will take his place. The desire to move on to different things is natural. There’s even a phrase, “the 7 year itch”.  I hope he is at peace with it. Otherwise come back :)
