I naively thought that messaging was as simple as using a Ethereum address as a public key and encrypting with your Ethereum private key. But the world has come a long way since Signal, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Ratchet_Algorithm Both WhatsApp and Apple iMessage use a version of this.

So does Waku, which is what is under the hood of XMTP, which is protocol used by LensProtocol for DMs. Waku is from EthStatus, also used by Status wallet, and also behind WalletConnect v2.
