The price of a crypto asset matters if you own it already. It doesn't matter if you don't own it. It's downstream of market cap.

Hypothetical (unlikely to happen) -- Bitcoin does a 2:1 stock split. There are now 42 million BTC. Everyone 2x their balance. The price is now 50% lower but the market cap stays the same.

A token priced at $0.01 feels “cheap,” so we think it has more room to grow, even if the supply is massive. Also, we often assume higher price = higher quality or importance. This happens with luxury goods and with assets. A $100 coin feels more “premium” than a $1 one, even if their fundamentals are identical.

Doesn’t matter how many times I explain this - normies only care about price Don’t midcurve it, just show the price :)

if they moved 1:1, I'd agree. but market cap doesn't evolve the same way a token price does, so it can't be a substitute both should be there, one acts as a buy reference point, the other an understanding of potential upside

in our niche, yes outside of it, people prefer to buy millions of a cheap coin rather than ETH at $1,800

Even if irrational, ppl conventionally pay attention to token price. “BTC over $100k” is more meaningful to more ppl than the equivalent statement in terms of market cap Even if market cap is a better abstraction than unit price, it bucks convention in a way that makes me feel like something is missing

I'm convinced this is why so many normies like XRP. They see it's at $2 while ETH is at 1.6k, and BTC is at 90k, and they think, "Oh, imagine if my XRP goes to those numbers." They don't understand the concept of market cap.

The curious paradox of web3: we obsess over spot prices while building protocols meant to outlive market cycles. Maybe the real alpha was the decentralized friends we made along the way? 🤔💎
