If we changed channels to "narrowcasting" i.e. only people who follow the channel will see it in a feed vs. today where all of your followers see all of your casts regardless of channel 1. I would want this for most channels 2. I would want this for some channels 3. I would want this for only a couple of channels

1. Most channels. What's the point of the channel otherwise?

this would be awful because I come to warpcast for the individuals, not the channels you have a great crew of people on here, fantastic builders, personalities, etc. on the other hand, there isn't a single channel where if I couldn't access it I would be sad focus on highlighting individuals, don't limit their reach

a lot of this is made better with a learning For You feed The learning feed knows I follow @dwr.eth & engage with his cast in channels a,b,c but I ignore his cast from channel d so rarely see them The feed picks up when I engage with other users’ cast in d & shows me a dwr cast in d, and if I bite shows more

i think #1 will be a classic case of stated vs. revealed preference a lot of people will probably say #1, but then will cry for more distribution everyone in the end will want as much distribution as possible if they don't need distribution it might as well be DC group

I don't want any of these as a channel owner, but there are tons of channels I'd like to mute. Solve it from the viewer side not creator side imo. If browsing channels on desktop were more reddit-like, or dare I say flink-like, I'd proactively view channels more. Now I rely on the home feed.

3 Would prefer channel mute instead I follow people and want my home feed to include more than their top level casts that aren’t in a channel

seeing casts from people I follow in other channels helps me find other channels. would prefer if it could be solved on the users end, i.e. if someone doesn’t want to see casts in a particular channel, provide them the option to mute the channel

2 Let the channel owner decide if it should be a broadcast or narrowcast channel.

3 — but would ideally have the option when casting anywhere to broadcast or narrowcast, @dwr.eth. Extend this idea to multicast into multiple relevant channels. Quote casting for visibility feels/looks like a hack.

4. I would NOT want this for any channels. Seeing others' posts in channels I hadn't seen before has been a great channel & niche interest discovery mechanism. This would kill the distribution and discoverability currently available.

3 I would make some channels more public I think it is a question if your optimizing the farcaster social graph to users or channels. For high profile people like Vitalik, I'm really interested in what he is posting in most channels (but not all of them) ->

#1 sounds ideal but messes with distribution. Might be better to flip this and do “mute channel” instead.

(2) for me. "all followers see all casts" is a good default but I wish I could have a checkbox or something that allows me, once in a while, to restrict the cast distribution to the channel where I post it. I'd implement that "restrict to channel" option on a "cast" basis, not on a "channel" basis. My 2 cents :)

2 or 3 Ideally let the viewer, not the caster, toggle a channel on/off.
