After 4+ years, I still find it strange / amusing there’s a group of people still here who somehow think Varun and I are not actually interested in building a protocol and it’s all a ruse to do a rug pull a la 2014 Twitter. If you don’t believe us, why waste your time?

That’s not to say critical feedback isn’t welcome or useful. But it’s bizarre when the default reaction to *everything* is negative / bad faith. Anyways, we’ll just keep trying to make weekly progress. Always has been the plan.

I think a lot of people have cognitive dissonance bw the technology, which is decentralized, and the social graph, which is pretty centralized with many of the most popular accounts being you and others who have some kind of association with Merkle

I don’t think you’re talking about me. But, I’ve said this before it’s not about you and Varun. It’s about natural incentives when things get big, everyone wants to keep the golden hen. It’s actually valuable to be skeptical here, but also without growth none of this matters in the grand scheme of things.

Fwiw I totally believe you, I just don't enjoy the fact that I need to believe you. :) I also understand why it's effective for iterating and building a better product sooner. If it's any consolation, I can't think of anyone who I believe would do a much better job *and* is more worthy of trust. You're well suited for this! I think my biggest fear is that you'll see some credible opportunity (eg tokens let's say) and start optimizing for that instead of something I'd consider more important (eg channels/"cozy spaces" let's say). It's frustrating to argue against "I have secret data you don't have so your position is invalid" — not that I don't believe you (I do), but this is another not-enjoyable position. All the while I understand your constraints as a startup, you have to demonstrate growth or else wind down. I've done the same, I get it, but the ticking clock is also unpleasant. It is what it is. In either case, I'm onboard. 🫡
