Warpcast onboarding flow as of August 1, 2024 I've seen an uptick in casts talking about improving onboarding for non-crypto-people. So here's a live onboarding I just did. I'd say it's pretty close to any web2 experience with the exception of upfront payment. You'll notice: 1. Minimal crypto UX — we use in-app purchases and Passkeys 2. The majority of onboarding interests used to populate the initial algo feed are non-crypto. 3. Since we no longer do initial follows, the initial feed nudges new users to follow more people. (Remember, the number one reason people churn is not enough content in their feed.) 4. Aside: crypto people don't sync contact book but non-crypto people do (because every other social app does this). However, that means the new people don't immediately find people they know the network.

This is great! Just need a rock solid “quick start guide” for new users to guide them through the first few hours and days. Love the progress.

Smooth, I like it. You’ve probably answered this elsewhere, so apologies: What about recommending channels (tied to interests that you already have in there) instead of or in addition to users? If I’m new around here, topics/channels may be more familiar than people, more quickly populating the feed and giving me exposure to those with shared interests. Also resolves the empty space at the top.

Love it! One note, on pick a username section, I think it would be nice to tell new users that they can't change it (if i'm not mistaken)

What I was talking about yesterday is exactly this… The first interaction non-crypto people have is immediately being asked to pay a fee. Can't you introduce some of the experience before that? Maybe offer a “test drive” where users can access the app in a “read-only” format or show a video/photos carousel highlighting interactions and features. There could be a “skip” button if users want to bypass it (like in those video game cutscenes). I'm pretty sure many people close the app when they see the charge fee right at the start.

This is quite an improvement, passkeys are awesome UX!! couldn't you allow signups without storage or a freemium cheaper mode that doesn't store your casts/reactions whatever for longer than X?

I onboarded a few people at BaseCamp and the new flow is really great! They went through it quickly, picked a few interests, and had a feed that they liked in a couple of minutes. I had them follow some my favorite channels and their feed looked really good!

I know you already told me you cant sync contacts from other apps, but what about wallets? Would there be a way to enter a bunch of our wallets just to find ppl on FC? Maybe without connecting them just to find ppl. This would be so useful for artists / collectors

Why not try to sync follow accounts by onchain interaction with a particular address? That should be possible no?
