Chasing users fleeing another platform is not a long-term valuable strategy. Effort is better spent trying to figure out the compelling reason for people to join the network independently. If you have that, then you can use sudden external entropy to help grow. But sign ups for the sake of sign ups don’t matter.

Sign ups for the sake of sign ups is only good to get cosy with VC’s Reminds me of WeWork. Look we got thousands of members! (But non of them paid or used the service)

While I agree it’s not a great place to be spending time & energy, helping out those who have been de-platforms is more than signups for the sake of signups. It does actually demonstrate the value here.

Obviously value your thoughts on this, I wonder however given the circumstances, if the opportunity to onboard a potential Brazilian twitter diaspora offers a valuable way to showcase potential of a sufficiently decentralized protocol. I was definitely one for sounding the call to action. Also fully understand your desire to avoid distraction.

assuming this is related to brazil i think what's happening on bluesky is an interesting example of a platform filling the role of 'this is the place where people who are leaving _____ go' that's not the game FC should be playing but I think it is important to capitalize on moments in time

Often times pain is the motivator. But also -- probably needed to make that push prior to them losing access to twitter. Harder to reach them now anyway. Just heard someone mention today they'll be spending more time here because of losing access to Twitter in Brazil -- they were already on here but were still using twitter more. So I'd be suprised if you didn't see some higher activity coming from Brazil.

"Why did they leave" What about spending efforts on why they left, taking feedback from them and improving upon that feedback? I agree, we shouldn't chase but should be getting to the root cause.

Between Twitter, HN, and Reddit, FC is a far more optimistic/positive place of builders. People trying to build each other up, rather than rip each other down.

Let's make onboarding fun. Many people find it complicated to get in by paying or not being able to upload their content in an optimal way like videos. As they say in Atomic Habits: Make it simple, make it obvious...

offering people that are censored a place to go maybe valuable to them. If that sticks long term, we'll see. I assume X will be unbanned in Brazil though and then they'll go back there, though some will stay.

Moments in where people are changing networks is rare. it’s not a “long term strategy” but it is opportunistic

It’s weird that some only see Farcaster as the tipping platform and not a web3 focused platform where it combines all of what we love from crypto. I’ve honestly stopped trying because it’s exhausting trying to tell folks it’s not just that. I wish more saw what many of us see here and not just another sign up❤️‍🔥
