Self-custody prevents remote seizure, but does not solve for physical seizure. Any world where you are worried about remote seizure, the risk of physical seizure will likely increase as well.

AA, Multisigs, and timelocks solve this. Putting a gun to my head today wouldn’t be enough to get a large majority of my self-custodied assets Would need to take me hostage to really get it, with a delay and a sophisticated op. Feels like any of the big exchanges are more likely to get hacked than that

Yeah I think if one falls, the other is much more likely to fall, but based on what we’ve seen so far I think if you’re standing downstream as the first dominoes fall you’re in a better position then if you’re at the front of the line. As in I agree with you but I also see the logic of diversification.

i've been wondering why there are no gangs that search for doxxed crypto-rich guys and just force them to give them their money

This is just part of it. I recommend everyone reads @christophera's Smart Custody guide (and sponsor it's 2.0 edition) This "Adversary Listing" is a masterclass in risk identification—and later in the book, mitigation https://i.imgur.com/5Mm3ECJ.png

Decoy wallet + privacy is the simple solution. Account abstraction with guardians and transaction limits will probably be the mainstream solution.

Yea but self custody eliminates the easiest form of theft (exchange theft). Also anonymity should obfuscate physical seizure. They may know about some of your wallets but not all, etc. Obvi there are degrees to this.

ye, but assuming the state won't torture millions of holders, you can protect against the other kinds of physical seizure by memorizing your seed phrase and deleting the paper trail
