Video and longer casts are both examples of stuff people ask for and then don't use very often. Ultimately both were worth adding, but stated vs. revealed preference strikes again.

In some cases it can be a UX problem. I don't use video much because I don't like the video player and most videos I want to share are on YouTube or some other platform. It's easier to paste the link than to figure out how to download the video, especially on mobile. Not sure about long casts since I do use them often now. Maybe people are not used to them yet or a better editor UX with more support for drafts and such could help. Product decisions affect user behavior.

Assuming most people that ask for it want to consume it, not create it. Asking in hopes someone else uses it I guess.

This is something we've seen quite a lot with Converse as well: building a product that has web2 equivalents requires that you spend quite a lot of time shipping features that are necessary but definitely not sufficient.

feel like with longer casts it's a good thing people don't overuse it, but it's there when you need it.

A client optimizing for visual content (pics, videos, etc) feed maybe a good direction for 3rd party teams. Warpcast is more like an reading app for me, focusing on text

Long casts were never going to be a big thing but for me it was about removing friction. I used always have to edit my replies to make them fit 320 and it was annoying. Now you can just reply and I feel the conversations flow better.

Maybe I’m just verbose, but I find myself using longer casts almost daily. And I share videos daily as well. Just having the options increases the diversity of the type of content available.

video missing two features that will really unlock it: - picture in picture so can scroll & watch - autoplay in feed without having full screen imo

I think some of it is the rumor mill and a huge misunderstanding about correlation and causation: Playing /farcastles gets your power badge removed; huge decline in playing Casting mint frames gets your power badge removed; people now post an image and then the mint link in the first comment Casting too many videos gets your power badge removed, etc Writing long threads with lots of comment replies to yourself gets your power badge removed; hesitant to use long casts

videos not rendering from non Warpcast clients means @dariustg can't share the farcon/farhack aftermovies. I personally don't post many videos since long form 20mins is better suited on youtube + linked in our docs -> no need in cast. But sharing 1min reel style content e.g. /lfg-builders but in quote cast we can't add videos

One thing I notice is the ratio of likes vs comments, both features are helpful and needed. imo, usage will grow once we pick up on the engagement.

I sure use the longer casts pretty often. Of course the idea was never to use it all the time. After all, we’ve been trained by all the time we spent without this possibility not to make them long. But I really love not being constrained by the limitations of the original shorter casts. Now, on the video side, I’ll have to agree that it’s more related to the current implementation. Not being able to rotate to full screen, pinch to zoom or even properly (cause the current xp feels kinda laggy and imprecise) drag the video to the desired play position makes the overall xp very poor. You guys really could, when the time is right, work on adding another player or evolving this one to something much better and fluid. In the end, I do agree that that simply sharing a YouTube link seems to work better, even tho it’s sad that it requires the user to leave the app to watch the video. Well, that’s my opinion as a user and hey, this was a long cast 💜

I don't add videos here because there's zero incentive to do so - no autoplay, no penalty for linking YT. Autoplay alone might nudge me in some cases
