“Farcaster influencer” is a bit of a delusion. It’s kinda like a high school yearbook superlative, as it suggests popularity but you wouldn’t put it on your resume and you can’t really monetize it in the real world in a non-MLM way

Maybe not traditional “influencer”, but plenty of economic value has been created for people who have taken Farcaster seriously over the last few years.

Beyond the onchain opportunities, plenty of people got jobs and raised funding as a result.

Agree, but people are definitely able to “monetize”, albeit differently. No MLM needed :)

I was saying elsewhere that “influencer” might not be the best term here since we are a niche social corner. eg people that are influencer-esque here might be better termed as “lifestyle personalities” but the idea of brand deals and mass reach may be early and/or incompatible with this space.

Web3 is still too risky and opaque for mass adoption in a lot of ways. So scalability is capped at the people who are here and already “get it” vs the accessibility of web2 (everyone who has a phone or computer)

I think a lot of this comes down to the user behavior. Twitter is easily consumed in volume and passively. Farcaster is challenging because it’s pretty bad and low EV as a passive participant. 

Early last year I said this place is basically an ongoing conference and that’s true. Most people want a CES - look at cool shiny novel stuff (which for the most part you can get in the general internet). Farcaster is a nerd conference like NeurIPS, ICRA, SIGGRAPH - it’s not very flashy but you can meet some great people.

My continued belief is that FC “will struggle” outwardly bc it looks like other social media but in practice is not actually like other social media.

$DEGEN wouldn’t exist without Farcaster. Launching here enabled us to create half a billion in value and a sphere of influence that reaches across crypto. This is just the start, and I’m confident the future is even brighter for those building on this platform we all value. Keep it up, Dan!

One of my goals for 2025 is to land a job from Farcaster. I just hope I’ll be able to find a project I could work with, especially with my skills.

people who contribute, build relationships have always created value for themselves

I feel you can better understand who someone is on Farcaster which leads to more value than following an influencer on X

Someone called me an influencer the other day in a negative way and that’s when I knew I had made it

The initial team at /opacity came together all because of farcaster

at first it was kind of like an oasis, finding cool ppl and making new friends after getting drained i think it was last year and loosing everything, still dont think we talk enough about how devastating and hopeless that feeling is. fc gave me new friends and motivated me to keep pushing in the dark times, still think we can do better for creators and moderators of communities, projects like moxie and ham are 4sure interesting and hopefully they continue to grow

I feel like I have a strong future with this as my hobby.

If it ends up being more than that I wouldn't mind that either.

“The people we meet along the way.”  Don’t have to be an influencer of any sort to make connections that permanently impact you economically and otherwise. The value of network isn’t measured in impressions or clicks.

If FC actually takes off new popular kids will emerge but majority will be the people who have been here working their ass off building their reputation.
