50% of people think tips are spammy sometimes. 10% always. Wonder if there is a better convention that allows Farcaster clients to better classify / collapse tips into a more useful UX for those that want to see them and hidden for those that don't want them. Parsing $[token] replies with some regexes could work but a bit naive.

Tips were always meant to grab mindshare via visibility. Any mechanism to reduce visibility will reduce usage. This means the goals of leaders of tipping communities are at odds with non-tippers. TBH I think mute words are the best solution to allow these groups to coexist.

what wildcard did (cc @defikaran.eth) where you can tip without it being a comment was thoughtful UX

I used mute words for tokens I don't want to see. I've probably missed some replies that finished with a tip but so be it.

In protocol tipping? Could be as simple as adding a new optional field to the cast object so that a cast can also contain a tip.

What about having a branch 🟢 for high effort replies, having a 🔴 for spam (like view more today) and a third branch 🟡 for more expiremnlental things liks tips Green will be there by default and the others will be collapsed and can be expanded by choice

Aggregating tips like in “show more” with the amount + still factoring tips into the algo could be cool!

i think a big part of that “sometimes” response is based on what token is being tipped, i would vote sometimes bc there are some random small new tipping tokens i simply don’t care about, if this poll was just $degen - the first one to do it - i would vote “never” i believe that muting is best here, bc otherwise it could be viewed as censoring what is a big part of the current incentive mechanisms for good content on here, especially in the more creative communities such as photography and art, tipping onchain is unique to fc and imo a net positive that should be talked about and in the open vs shying away from how attention value uniquely accrues when wallets are connected to a social network if done like @moxie-support does, i’d be curious how we could see who has tipped us, if it’s in notifications that would work, maybe both options is best - via action or cast

seems reasonable to collapse casts with just `X $[token]` replies - they're already effectively emergent behavior making up for no tipping button can show the tipped token's icon and amount like how reddit awards used to work. really cool to see little bleu elephants or purple top hats underneath deeper cast integration also ties into the greater crypto ecosystem while maybe encouraging more community tokens also a collapsed tipping space could be a tappable place to allow more direct tipping interactions or showing who tipped what so the intent of the tipping casts is still visible

Would be neat if tip notifications were consolidated into system notifications, similar to when someone tips you in warps. Bots seem to be a temporary solution. Users ultimately want the ability to: 1) Tip another user in their desired currency. 2) Notify the user that they have received a tip. 3) Track the remaining amount in their tip allocation. 4) Verify to the recipient that their tip was real and successful. There's a social and status component to tipping, too, so it can't be invisible like cast actions or warps.

If there was a way to help people signal if they didn’t want tips….like a dot in a corner of pfp that people toggle in setting…..it could let people know not to tip. Sort of like turning front lights of house off on Halloween so kids know not to knock.

Based on bias, you could also write that statement that “50% never think they are spammy (winning poll option) and 90% see them as valuable, at least sometimes” Example of confirmation bias written either way?

In theory, people could already do something like that with the “Muted Words” feature, right?

Don't hide and they are obviously not spam, more than 40% think they are not spam. Major challenge was bot farming, which I don't see anymore, at least not on the trending page

Can we have a separate notifications tab for bot replies? @edit bot, @masks-bot, ect are useful for keeping track of tips and verifying the tips that people gave me are real. However, it super frustrating to scroll through notifications when 1/3 or more of my mentions are just various tipping bots.

most of the times tip comments aren't useful to see in replies but a total number of tips and top people from your network who tipped can be great to see
