The real competitor to mid tier American cities like Austin is not NYC or LA, its places like Chiang Mai and Bangkok. Either you live in the expensive maximalist version or in the cheap exile version. The mid-tier expensive city should become obsolete

Eh idk, cities aren't necessarily fungible / interchangeable like that. Austin is irreplaceable as it has evolved such unique context. Only way that changes is if it changes so drastically that it becomes indistinguishable from others

yeah not necessarily the whole city but I think places like austin are overhyped for tech, particularly remote friendly tech
