Why dont we have EXTSTORAGE opcode? 

I mean, reading storage directly from other contract is probably desirable and data is already public.

There’s https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-2330 but it’s stagnant. I agree with you though it would be nice to have

Security at Optimism. Formerly built Umbra and more at ScopeLift

You can probably do it now with https://www.axiom.xyz/ (much more expensive than an opcode would be though)

Axiom does it for a history, it can't create the proof for the present block.

Why it is hard to reason about that, i mean slot 100 can be a constant or something not exposed, and it should be cheaper to fetch. 

I dont know about usage, didnt think a lot about it, but it feels like a more open access (with proofs) to public state is nicer to have then closed access.

Hmm, a contract that does “X, but only if slot 100 in contract Y” seems hard to reason about.

What makes it desirable? What would you use it for?

It is on VM to enable it and on the language to make it safe/usable. But usage needs to be defined for adding this to make sense

Protecting modularity and ensuring safe execution remain priorities. However, exploring safe ways to enhance interaction between contracts could bring exciting advancements!
