farcaster is not sustainable if merkle gets all the funding and does not pass that on to other developers. you can either centralize funding and development or decentralize both. you can’t centralize funding and maintain motivation for decentralized development.

this reminds me to watch this video that @samuellhuber.eth recommended and said addressed the plan for the funding (which recently seems to be sitting tranquilly in the coffers) https://youtu.be/yGY2DxHQ55Y?si=UclvQ2__cMBNZI0f

do you disagree that merkle gets the vast majority of funding for the farcaster ecosystem? if so, how is 3rd party development sustainable?

I agree that merkle gets the vast majority of funding. That's a fact. I disagree in that this funding should be used to venture fund non merkle teams. I disagree that this venture funding merkle recieved should be paid out to developers at large. Notice: - at large - venture fund history show it doesn't work

could you give an example? the money is flowing into protocol and product. their capex is spent on improving the protocol see: https://github.com/farcasterxyz/protocol/discussions/

i haven’t seen them spending money on anything besides their existing headcount, so it seems to might as well not exist of course, i don’t know anything that’s not public…but would guess they have 15 years of runway at current headcount

15? I'd count them as profitable at current headcount sir. -> infinite also that doesn't matter unless FC grows. they could have 2, 3, 10, 100 years of runway. In the end this thing only works if it's 1) stable 2) fun fun being: - users enjoying the content (could be news, conversations, memes, art, you name it.) - developers having a pleasant experience building

btw how much revenue do you think they make? all protocol fees? was surprised to hear you think they’re profitable. a 10,000 person social network being profitable is eye-opening
