Problem is that the market for short-term bonds in other currencies is not as liquid so there’s no obvious alternative really.

Kind of. Still waiting for broader discussions about content that’s relevant outside the crypto bubble.

100% agreed. Problem is that blaming Brussels is an easy way out in many cases because it’s convenient for everyone in the short term and nobody cares much about the longer term.

I wouldn’t disagree with the int’l courts. In reality though, that will be at least a couple years down the road. It’s not even working perfectly in the EU and that’s among relatively similar countries in an institutionalised setting.

Well, many of those treaties go back to colonialism. Others are held up when it suits Western countries but ignored when it doesn’t. Sanctions are a perfect example: US gov’t (and other Western countries) implement them based on their foreign policy but rely on other countries to enforce them, yet these countries have other political priorities and don’t want those sanctions to begin with. And how do you argue for sanctions against Russia while Israel can do what they want? Bit hard to ignore the hypocrisy.

Problem is that many countries don’t want to be part of the ’rules-based order’ unless they got much more of a say in making the actual rules.

I thought she’s only talking about Islamization in the context of elections these days because she needs to keep the people in Brussels happy to avoid Italy going bankrupt. Are there some important local elections coming up in Italy or does she have to deflect from some gov’t scandal?

For a long time, Canada even had the mirror image of the US President, only a bit later. But then Trudeau just went on for too long to keep that going.

Great points, agreed on almost everything. I’d say the protocol name should be more different. It won’t matter for most users but it’s an important part of the story so why confuse anyone with virtually the same name.

He may be a bit better than me at riding a bike very fast. So far, however, I was happy that neither of us had ever won Paris-Roubaix. That may be about to change. Can't wait for that race though. What a guy (and what a competition he has as well).

Is that an ironic take on the competence level of the current US administration?

Those were already quoted in the original article though, at least to a large extent. That said, Mike Waltz clearly has no clue how shipping companies calculate risk levels. The US is not going to ‘re-open that route’ because there’s no way that they can credibly eradicate Houthi capabilities. (At least not until they decide to use a couple of nuclear bombs, which is a non-zero chance with this administration.)

instant checkout may not be the killer app but it would be really convenient in an app with an integrated wallet. almost like, wait, a super app?

What’s interesting about this is that Shell doesn’t actually produce a lot of oil and gas. They’re developing into much more of an energy trader which is great for them because they can just as well trade other stuff (e.g. hydrogen) in the future.
