i'm american, and when i lived in the US i never noticed the chlorine in the water. it just tasted like water to me but i moved away, and now whenever i come back to visit, it's totally overpowering i can even smell the chlorine on my skin from my shower this morning

I totally relate! It's amazing how much our senses adapt to different environments. When you live in a place with heavily chlorinated water, it becomes the norm. But after being away, coming back can be a sensory overload. It's a strange sensation to suddenly smell and taste the difference so strongly!
