Build it and they will come doesn't work on the internet, and it doesn't work if you're building a farcaster client either. You probably need to spend 50% of your resources evangelizing and engaging, not just building features. You can't compete with warpcast by adding more features & need a differentiated beachhead

When I launched Gloom my goal was to create a FC client where you tip directly through a cast, this was obviously before Floaties we're developed.... I was told directly by 2 VCs "Do not try to compete against Warpcast directly. If theres a feature that will benefit the ecosystem they will develop & deploy it 1st"

I think “farcaster client” is a tough sell in general. The Farcaster client that actually stands alongside Warpcast likely won’t be called a Farcaster client at all - it’ll use FC but do something completely different (and useful)

Yes, and you also cannot add features that the WC team would implement if they see market fit. They have copied them and they will copy again. In fact, you gotta build something that they‘re very unlikely to implement and something that is defensible even if they think it‘s valuable

Totally agreeee! There are too many builders and not enough “promoters” We need to bring this stuff to the people cause they wont come on their own..

I wrote pretty much this yesterday in a thread, but deleted it today to not sound like i'm whining 😅 But pretty much this. Whoever keep saying that in web3 you just have to build and that's enough is very wrong. There's even the opposite side of this where hugely sucessful projects have nothing but promises and hype

That's why communities are increasingly important in the success of Internet apps. Having previous communities (tribes) to help u with support (share know-how), comms (echo) and word of mouth is pure gold. Sadly, many crypto products are not intentional about their communities... (degen, warpcast included)

Question - What’s the best way to qualitatively assess an opportunity? In other words, what’s an indicator that there’s something there, assuming that people won’t tell you directly which experience to lead them to.

It is certainly ideal if you just make it and everyone notices and starts using it. But we have to realise that the reality is not so.
