Kinda feel like spam needs a faster fix right now - how about paid human moderation? Could be funded with channel passes as a subscription - $50 a month per channel across 100 channels across 2 people is a lot of money in some places of the world

A blocking feature is something that nobody would negatively mind having and could help a lot alleviating the crisis until a permanent solution is found. Unfortunately i’m mostly back to Twitter because of the higher noise.

Seeing this makes me very happy that none of the channels I host are on the degen boost list 😅 It seems like letting the host selectively “decentralize” the hide button could help? Like they assign mods who are not hosts but can also hide (and the hosts get an unhide)

It was always coming! I used to lead research at the AKASHA Foundation, dedicated to 'decentralized social'. Here's a blog post summarising our research findings in the context of moderating. https://philipsheldrake.com/2021/02/community-moderating-bringing-our-best/

Would love to see farcaster team propose a more sustainable decentralized solution for content moderation. Otherwise this is were you end up and sadly this settlement didn’t help workers in poorer countries: https://www.theverge.com/2020/5/12/21255870/facebook-content-moderator-settlement-scola-ptsd-mental-health

Or maybe 10% of the tips from that channel can go to mods. So, they also have skin in the game.

Paid mods can be a way to go but it also needs better mod tooling (eg supermods, granular permissions)

I think it will kill the platform. Many people do not register now, because they have to pay. And it many places around the world people are not mentally ready to pay at all.
