In an early version of the Bitcoin source code, Satoshi called it a timechain instead of a blockchain. Also, sats were cents. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=382374.0

In my head cannon, Satoshi was trying to build a decentralized time server, and was trying to figure out how to get people to keep submitting new timeblocks every 10 minutes or so, so he threw in a reward system, then decided to make the rewards transferable, and then realized he'd accidentally made something cool.
