Kurzweil nails it when commenting on the use of AI as a tool at the end of chapter 5 of his new book. The Singularity is Nearer (2024) "In most respects we won't be competing with AI any more than we currently compete with our smartphones. Indeed this symbiosis is nothing new. It has been the purpose of technology since stone tools to extend our reach physically and intellectually."

Okay, now I can see all the fourth of July posts on my main feed 🤔 Definitely would have been more relevant yesterday. The main feed has good content, it's just always a day old. Once again I'm asking for the option of a chronological feed. IMO if your chronological feed looks bad, you're following too many randos.

What if we replace the entire concept of patents/copyright with staked attestations of value pointing at regions of latent space in machine learning models? Like owning a plot of land in Decentraland, but it's a region of latent space. Two similar concepts are generally close to each other in latent space, so populating highly valuable regions would signal an area with highly valuable concepts. This is basically what we're doing when we try and determine inspiration and prior work, but it could actually be mathematically quantified into a fully automated royalty system. Anyone could contribute weird ideas, and others could build on them, and what you end up with is a self propelled "Good Idea Machine", such that anything useful that comes out of an LLM would also be tagged with attestations that show the inspirations that led to the new idea, with full cryptographic provenance.

My kid turns 4 in a couple days. I'm currently reflecting on the idea that parents should be teaching kids to think critically, especially about anything coming from presumed authority figures, and the only parents really concerned about "indoctrination" are parents who are relying on blind faith to control their kids.

Currently dreaming of a world of enshrined state aggregation, where nodes generally agree on a GlobalStateRoot for the universe, and state transition proofs are standardized, but any set of nodes can fork their state for any reason, and re-merge their state later under a certain set of economic conditions, like a CRDT.
