Why did they lose? Because they failed to conform to my preferences. They did stuff I hate. Had they conformed to my preferences, and did everything I like, they would have surely won.

Happens all the time. The goal is 51%. Unless you live somewhere very homogeneous, that'll always include people you disagree with.

Personally there are tons of positions effectively mandatory in SF that I don't agree with, but I'm glad that my "team" supports them anyway so we can win. It's a big tent.
